Bozeman Water Main Break

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JULY 31, 2010 – 7:30 PM

The City of Bozeman has experienced a large water main break in the 900 block of South Black Avenue. Due to the large volume of water lost over a short period of time, Public Services Director Debbie Arkell is asking residents and business owners to restrict the use of water to domestic use until the water main can be repaired and the water tanks can be re-filled. Effective immediately, outside water use is prohibited.
The Bozeman Municipal Code authorizes the restriction of outdoor water use with the penalty for violations being the disconnection of water service. It is imperative that citizens follow the outdoor water use prohibition to ensure adequate water is available for domestic use.

The break will cause water to be colored in certain areas of town – it will look dirty. The chlorine residual makes the water safe to drink.
An area in the southeast part of the city will be without water during the period of the repair, and residents will be notified as soon as the area is known.
The city will update residents when the restriction is lifted.
